![[image]](http://talklikeaphysicist.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/bell-phone-1876.jpg) Alexander Graham Bell's notebook entry of March 10, 1876, describes the first successful experiment with the telephone, during which he spoke through the instrument to his assistant, Thomas A. Watson, in the next room. Bell writes, "I then shouted into M [the mouthpiece] the following sentence: 'Mr. Watson--come here--I want to see you.' To my delight he came and declared that he had heard and understood what I said QC http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/treasures/trr002.html

It is a rare baseball fan indeed who has never purchased a pack of baseball cards. But not every fan becomes a serious collector. If you have never started a collection but think you would like to get started in this fascinating hobby enjoyed by millions, this guide is written for you. (Whether you're a youngster or an adult.)
![[image]](http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/4673/oldcardbaker.jpg) Baseball cards have been around almost as long as professional baseball itself. In the beginning, baseball cards were packaged as a "bonus" with other products such as tobacco, candy or gum in order to boost sales of those products. This was true of all the early cards issued, from 1869 through the 1930s.Home Run Baker Basball card circa 1912 The Library of Congress http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/bbhtml/bbhome.html has a nice online display of older baseball cards QC

![[image]](http://www.computercraft.com/photo/4863voltdim.jpg) Three Volt 486 CPU. In Order To Work In An Older Motherboard, a Voltage Regulator Will Be Required.
To clearly state the obvious, if the original processor is soldered to the motherboard and there is no upgrade socket, your system is not upgradable. If this describes your motherboard, do not attempt to pry out, desolder, or in any other way remove the original processor! You'll only destroy the board QC http://www.computercraft.com/docs/old486.shtml

The Windows NT Better than Sliced Bread hardware abstraction layer (HAL) refers to a layer of software that deals directly with your computer hardware. Because the HAL operates at a level between the hardware and the Windows NT executive services, applications and device drivers need not be aware of any hardware-specific information. The HAL provides routines that enable a single device driver to support a device on different hardware platforms, making device driver development much easier. It hides hardware dependent details such as I/O interfaces, interrupt controllers, and multiprocessor communication mechanisms. Applications and device drivers are no longer allowed to deal with hardware directly and must make calls to HAL routines to determine hardware specific information. Thus, through the filter provided by the HAL, different hardware configurations can be accessed in the same manner QC
