Coming soon: the new landscape of ECW
June 12, 2007
When ECW on Sci Fi returns next week, the landscape of the Land of the Extreme will be entirely new because of the WWE Draft. Which Superstars will be calling ECW their new home?
What new challenges will await ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley – if indeed he is still an official member of ECW? What will be the fate of ECW mainstays like the Originals, the New Breed and CM Punk? Which Superstars will be happy with their new beginning in ECW and which Superstars will not? You can find out only by tuning into ECW on Sci Fi.
Last week, our fans were stunned by how unstable Mr. McMahon appeared during Lashley’s successful title defense against Tommy Dreamer, Sandman and Balls Mahoney in a 3-on-1 Hardcore Handicap Match. Will the Chairman continue to fall further into the depths of madness? And will ECW continue to feel his wrath?
Find out the answers to these questions and more on the next ECW on Sci Fi on Tuesday at 10/9 CT. In addition be sure to tune in to a three-hour Raw for the WWE Draft at a special start time of 8/7 CT.

WWE® TO HOLD HISTORIC DRAFT
Celebrity Appearances Lined Up for Special Three-Hour RAW® on June 11
STAMFORD, Conn., June 6, 2007 – With the official 2007 draft season underway, World Wrestling Entertainment® is ready to shake the foundations of the sports entertainment world when it holds its own WWE talent draft on a special three-hour edition of Monday Night RAW (USA, 8 p.m. ET/7C) on June 11. The live broadcast will be accompanied by a special Mr. McMahon Appreciation Night with television appearances by Steve-O from JACKASS, Jesse Ventura, Gene Okerlund, Bobby Heenan and Mick Foley, among several other notables.
“With the 2007 draft comes an unprecedented occasion in WWE history where each Superstar across all three of our programs is subject to being placed on another roster,” said Stephanie McMahon Levesque, Executive Vice President, Talent and Creative Writing. “No one will be safe this evening. This is what makes it so exciting to witness, as viewers will see some of their favorites being traded to a different roster, making for a thrilling dynamic in the months ahead.”
All WWE Superstars and Divas from WWE’s highly rated prime time television programs – RAW (regularly at 9 p.m. ET/8 C), Friday Night SmackDown® (CW 8 p.m. ET/7C) and ECW®: Extreme Championship Wrestling™ (SCI FI, 10 p.m. ET/9C) – will participate in the draft. With this year’s draft being the first to feature all three WWE brands, there are sure to be some major talent roster changes.
The talent draft is a historical fan favorite. The first draft was held on March 25, 2002, when WWE decided to create two distinct brands, each with its own talent rosters and self-contained storylines within their respective television programs: Monday Night RAW and Friday Night SmackDown. That first draft pitted Vince McMahon, drafting for SmackDown, against WWE Legend Ric Flair®, who then managed the RAW brand. It featured some of WWE’s most well-known Superstars, such as The Rock®, Triple H®, Undertaker® and current World Heavyweight Champion Edge®.
At last night’s WWE SmackDown & ECW tapings in Orlando, FL, Johnny Jeter defeated Sylvan in a dark match.

Former WWE superstar Chris “Y2J” Jericho has a spoken word part on the new Dream Theater album "Systematic Chaos". The album was released yesterday and is featured in the song "Repentance".
UWP has announced that recently released WWE star Sabu has been added to their shows scheduled for this Friday and Saturday in Philadelphia and Ft. Meade MD. Friday’s show will be held at New Alhambra Arena in Philadelphia while Saturday’s show will be held at the Ft. Meade Pavillion in Ft. Meade MD.
Former WWE superstar Lance Storm has an article up on StormWrestling.com talking about Saturday Night’s Main Event and how it does not mean as much now as it did years ago.
To follow up a report from yesterday that WWE has created several new "Don't Try This At Home" PSAs featuring WWE Superstars such as Mr. Kennedy, William Regal, Finlay and Carlito. Jake Fields from London let us know the PSAs have already aired in the United Kingdom. John Cena has also done the PSA.
Chris Jericho is scheduled to appear at the PWE show on 6/24 at the Galaxy Skateland in Martinsburg, WV. Y2J will be doing a pre-show autograph session.
WWE is working on a Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat DVD, but at this point, no time table has been set.
WWE's Raw Crew arrived at the Dublin Airport this morning. The Raw Crew are in Dublin at the Point Depot, Dublin, Ireland. Jeff Hardy & Chris Masters stopped to sign autographs for fans, Ric Flair & Trevor Murdoch walked through without signing anything.
The reason WWE pulled Daivari from his heel speaking role is because the company is becoming more sensitive to accusations that they are exploiting the war in Iraq or terrorist threats in general. Daivari, who is deemed fearless backstage, didn’t care to push the envelope and never asked the writers to tone anything down. However, WWE television network affiliates have voiced their displeasure with the character, promoting its removal.
Speaking of controversial mouthpieces, Armando Estrada has not been seen with Umaga as of late because the McMahons felt that they had one people too many out to ringside with their wrecking crew. Some readers had thought that maybe Estrada was feeling some backstage heat, however, that is not the case and he will return with Umaga once he is finished as Vince McMahon’s henchman.
Shelly "Ariel" Martinez was in attendance at this past weekend's Wrestling Reunion convention in Carteret, NJ. She said that she would only autograph items in her real name, Shelly Martinez, and not her WWE name Ariel. She doesn't own the copyright to the name and thus she didn't want to get in trouble with WWE. Furthermore, on her MySpace page, the headline reads "Soon to be Koffin Kitten," so it looks like 'Koffin Kitten' will be her new wrestling name. She also posted up a note on her MySpace page saying that she will be auctioning off some of the outfits she wore during her time in WWE soon.
After looking at how they did last week's Saturday Night Main Event's show, WWE is seriously considering strongly revamping the next show in August. Or at the very least, taping it from Madison Square Garden when Raw runs their show there on 8/13. The next SNME show is scheduled to air on 8/18.
It would be an understatement to say that there are very high expectations for next week’s WWE Draft Lottery which will air in RAW’s slot beginning one hour earlier. Internally in WWE they are expecting the show to surpass a 4.0 cable rating. The show has done a 3.2 and 3.8 the past two respective weeks.
Mick Foley was backstage at Raw Monday night in Tampa, and even scheduled to appear on the show in angle with Vince McMahon, but was scratched right before the show started for some unknown reason.
Shawn Michaels had surgery on his knee on May 23. He won't be able to put weight on his knee for a month or two after the surgery, and then he'll be able to begin rehabbing from there. He had been wrestling in pain for a while. He initially seriously tweaked his knee on Raw on May 14 when he landed awkwardly at ringside during a match. He was sore all week and attempted to wrestle over the weekend, and at that point knew he had to have surgery immediately to fix the damage to his cartilage. Given the type of surgery he had, he should return stronger and in less pain than he's been in for more than a year. Michaels has about three years left on his current WWE deal and he plans to fulfill the duration of it. One source said: "I don't think he gives a sh-- about being the top act alone on any brand at this point in his career. He has pride in what he does, but he doesn't need or want the burden of being built around like Cena or Edge right now."
Umaga is hurting these days. He has a bad rib and a bad elbow. What with so many guys hurt, several wrestlers are downplaying their injuries because WWE needs them.
