Spears barred from child contact Britney Spears' former husband Kevin Federline has been given sole custody of the couple's two children.
The court ruling came a day after police went to the pop star's house when she refused to return the children after a court-monitored visit.
Federline, 26, who did not appear in court, already had temporary custody of two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James.
Another court hearing has been set for 14 January.
"I'm not happy about any of these events," said Federline's lawyer, Mark Kaplan, after the hearing in Los Angeles.
"There's no winners here."
'Breakdown'
Police were called to Spears' home at 2000 on Thursday (0400 GMT Friday) over a family custodial dispute that they tried to resolve "peacefully by court order", police officer Jason Lee told the BBC.
After nearly three hours, Spears reportedly handed over her children.
It is reported that police found the singer under the influence of an unknown substance, and she was taken to hospital for medical evaluation.
Local TV reports showed police at Spears's hilltop mansion and pictures which apparently showed her being taken out of the house on a stretcher, the BBC's David Willis reports.
The singer was not arrested, and "there was no actual crime", a police spokeswoman said.
She is now undergoing a 72-hour evaluation at Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, People magazine reports.
The pop star's lawyers filed a court motion earlier this week asking to be relieved as her representatives due to a "breakdown" in communication. Read Her Last Blog www.britneyspears.com
