About 42,000 gallons a day of crude oil were spewing from the sunken platform , 700,000 gallons of diesel fuel that could be released. Robot subs are trying to plug the leak in a difficult task that could take days or months. A flotilla of vessels also has been dispatched to attempt to mop it up. Meanwhile, the threat of environmental damage to the Louisiana coast is mounting. The area is rich in marine life, including whales, sharks, sea turtles, shrimp, crab, oysters, grouper and dolphins QC www.floridatoday.com
